Why I Acquired Halogy
Two and a half years ago I was a frustrated freelance designer and developer. I was frustrated with the state of Wordpress, endless plugins, no multi-site management, constant spamming of client sites, and worst of all was the way Wordpress handled PHP and HTML/CSS. So I set out to find a better solution to manage my client sites. After endless blog posts and top 10 lists, I came across this post from App Storm Web. AppStorm wrote a fantastic review of a new CMS called Halogy. The main focus was that with Halogy you could manage multiple websites from one install, you could even buy the source code to deploy on your own server. For me, the biggest draw was being able to launch my own server and keep developing client websites. Not only that, but since Halogy was built on CodeIgniter I could extend the functionality by developing custom modules. This was a huge benefit for my business and clients. So I jumped in, bought the rights to deploy Halogy on my own server and I never looked back. Now two and a half years later, I am still developing websites on Halogy, and I have customized the heck out of the system. I've created custom tags, shopping systems, community management features, and added custom support for event registration. Over the last year the original developer of Halogy has been pulled away due to the success of another one of his projects. Two months ago he reached out to me to let me know that he was planning on closing down the Halogy site and releasing the code out on Google Projects. I was sad at the prospect of the CMS that has been so good to me, my clients, and business closed down. So I let him know I would be interested in acquiring Halogy to keep carrying on the development. I am happy to announce that we have just closed the deal for me and my team to take over development of Halogy. I have some great plans for Halogy and I am very excited to help continue to grow Halogy into a fantastic platform. I look forward to hearing thoughts on how we can make this a better platform. Here's to a great 2013!
