Transparency

Field & practice

I want more transparency. Everyday we work on our projects, we focus, build, and deliver. But as an industry we are awful at communicating about our work. It was this lack of communication that was the driving factor for founding Glean. But there is bigger issue at work in our organizations: transparency. It's one thing to communicate about your work. It's different to focus on being transparent about your work.

Transparency is about being vulnerable. It's about putting yourself out there for others to see. It's about accepting that you're not perfect. And acknowledging that the public might have better ideas than you.

At Development Innovations we are testing a model of transparency. We are developing some of our tools out in the open. We are hoping to encourage more open development practices for NGOs. For me, it's a bit scary to have your code just out there for anyone to see, use, and comment on. But it's my hope that others will look at our code and use it for their own projects. We are a community, let's learn from each other.

Have a look at our GitHub repo and feel free to use the code as you see fit.

How transparent is your organization?
