Copy or Care?

Field & practice

One of the great joys I have living in Phnom Penh is that we've been blessed with a lot of coffee shops opening. And one of my favorite things to do is try out the new coffee shops. I've seen all types of coffee shops open, some small with high-end coffee, hole-in-the-wall shops with cheap coffee, big brands like Starbucks or Costa, and trendy local shops.

We also get another kind of coffee shops: the copycat. These shops are usually direct copies of other popular shops in town. But usually the quality is lacking from other the shops in town. It's pretty rare that these coffee chops last more than a year.

When we copy someone else, we miss out on their passion or vision. Those are traits that just can't be copied. You might be able to sustain for a while, but in the end if you don't care, you will quit. The thing that pushes us through and helps sustains us is the passion and the vision we have.

Care more. No one can copy that.
